The Ministry of Highways is seeking a highly motivated individual with superb technical, interpersonal and team-oriented skills for the exciting role of a Data Analyst in the Project Support Office.

Reporting to the Manager of Program Planning and Analysis, this exciting position will play an integral role in supporting the Project Support Office, with on-going forecasting and reporting, trend and risk analysis, maintaining and updating databases, and providing back-up and support to other members of the team. The data analyst is an integral member of the Project Support Office. This position will develop and update the databases and information that the branch uses to do reporting and programming functions. You will also act as essential back-up and support to the financial analyst and will be called upon to perform tasks or be assigned duties by the branch managers, as applicable.

The ideal candidate:

  • Provides advice and consulting services on the respective program areas to Ministry staff and external stakeholders in response to inquiries and information requests, including materials for briefing notes, ministerial responses, audits and freedom of information requests.
  • Designs and conducts investigations, research tasks and project/program evaluations for the Ministry, including identifying options and recommending courses of action to executive management and other stakeholders in the Ministry.
  • Designs, develops, maintains and modifies tools, including databases, models, templates and reports.
  • Provides training and training support for the use of reports, databases and miscellaneous tools.
  • Integrates data from various sources into the Ministry’s project management software.
  • Provides support as needed to other members of the Project Support Office, including undertaking appropriate duties of the Financial Analyst position in a backup capacity.
  • Provides technical support and information to clients and stakeholders on issues relating to the use of databases to support program delivery, and the associated considerations including database design, use, expected benefits, costs and limitations.

Travel Required: One to two days a month.

Typically, the knowledge and abilities required for this position would be gained and demonstrated through the completion of a degree in business and/or computer science or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An expert level in MS Access and Excel and intermediate knowledge of other applications like Power BI will be integral to the candidate's success in this role. Testing will be done to assess these skills.
